Here’s how to get involved at Woodbury Boston

Woodbury Boston Primary School is a very special place. Our staff members work hard to provide amazing learning and life opportunities for the students. We’ve also got an amazing pool of clever, innovative, skilled humans in our parent population, and we rely on them to support the school, too.

It makes sense — the more support our students have from the adults in the community (teaching staff, admin and parents,) the better their educational experience.

If you’ve put your hand up to volunteer in the past, THANK YOU! You’ll be able to attest that the school makes it pretty easy. Whitney (the organisation queen) provides all of the information parents need to get involved.

If you’re a first-timer or you’re new to the school, here is an overview of all the ways you can get involved. We’re so appreciative of parent contributions at school — and the children love seeing you here!

Board members

Woodbury Boston is overseen by a Governing Body (GB). The GB consists of parents and other members of the wider community, elected at the school’s Annual General Meeting. They meet regularly during the year, focusing on such issues as school policy, future directions, human resources and marketing. Our AGM is in April — please come along!

Whole-school camp

The first big event of the year, whole-school camp truly sets the tone. All parents and family members are encouraged to come along to whole-school camp — it’s a fun, relaxed couple of days and an amazing chance for you to make connections with the staff and other parents.

Of course, our youngest students must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the camp, but we love to see parents of older kids, too. [3rd - 5th March]

Classroom volunteers

Our school has an open-door policy. Parents are welcome to come into the classroom to help with just about anything that’s happening on a given day. Younger siblings are welcome, too. If you’d like to book a regular day to help in your child’s class (or even a one-off!) please speak to your child’s teacher.

Canteen lunch helpers

Generally, we try to put on a canteen lunch every fortnight. The students love having a special, hot lunch and eating together is a beautiful bonding experience. To run a canteen lunch, we need 3-4 parent volunteers to be at school from about 10am-2pm on the day. Keen to help out? Speak to Whitney and keep an eye on the newsletter for up-coming dates.

Year-end festivities

With summer holidays just around the corner, we’re building up to some lovely events to celebrate the year that was. At Woodbury Boston, we end the year by taking the students for a day-trip to Frenchman’s Bay. This year, we’re going on 11 December and parents are more than welcome to come along to lend a hand, or just join in the fun.

Another favourite Term Four activity is the Special Lunch. A group of parents comes together to prepare a lovely, hot meal for the students and school adults. Our students feel very fancy sitting down to a main and dessert and everyone is so appreciative of the parent contribution.

If you’d like to help with either the Frenchman’s Bay Day or the Special Lunch, please let Whitney know. She’ll do a happy dance and reward you with a (socially distanced) hug.

Everyone welcome

The whole community is welcome to get involved at Woodbury Boston. The more we can give of our time and talents, the better off our beautiful students will be.
