Adventures and Camps

community and skills building

At Woodbury Boston, camps give our students the opportunity to experience adventure, consolidate relationships, interact with community members, and learn new skills. Our camp offerings depend on a few factors, including the skill sets of school adults and the availability of venues. Have a look at some of our recent camps below.

Whole School Camp

Camps have cross-curricular benefits, with links to the Australian Curriculum across several learning areas. As learning outcomes and priorities are assessed, staff members identify the ways that participating in and reflecting on camp experiences will contribute to student learning.

Our whole-school camp takes place at the beginning of the year. All staff, students and family members are invited to attend. Whole-school camp is an opportunity to welcome the new school year as well as new community members.

sailing camp

This camp gives our older students a chance to learn how to sail a ‘small-cat’ catamaran. All lessons are taught by an accredited sailing instructor. Addressing Phys Ed, Health and Science achievement standards in an ‘out-of-the-box’ way helps our Year 5-6 class develop new skills and form life-long memories.

dryandra camp

Dryandra Camp is an opportunity for our Year 3-4 students to have their first true overnight camp experience. Staff and students travel by bus to Dryandra Woodland, where they’ll experience a Nocturnal Guided Walk facilitated by the Department of Environment and Conservation.

With Curriculum links in Science, Languages, Social Sciences and Health/Phys Ed, our students love the experience, as well as the skills and facts they learn along the way. Dryandra is important preparation for Quest Camp.

Quest adventure camp

By the time our students reach our senior (year 5-6) class, they’ve been hearing about Quest Camp for years from their older friends. This five-day experience allows our students to continue building self-reliance, problem solving skills and resilience. Learning responsible camping practice, water conservation, landscape features, historical landmarks and true adventure make Quest an unforgettable camp experience for our senior students.

Peer support camp

Each year our senior students participate in the Peer Support Leadership training, in preparation for the Peer Support program we run with all the children later in the year. Peer Support is a great program for developing leadership skills and encouraging the children to think of different ways to approach situations, while facilitating positive communication skills, empathy and listening.
